Ready, Set, Rest!

Hello again, it’s been quite a while since our last update and it’s only partially not our fault. Life has been, understandably, pretty crazy the last couple of months, and we’re just now seeming to get a handle on the new “normal”.

Let us rewind a bit for you. As we were finishing off the travel year (and our last year on the road), we were graciously gifted funds for a several weeks long Sabbatical. It was such an incredible blessing, and we didn’t realize how much we needed it until we were there. It seems 35 years is a lot to unpack and rest up from…why were we surprised that it took us a week to even start to unwind? Seriously, though, Jimmy was probably more aware of how tired we were, but Lori felt like she was doing pretty well until she was truly able to stop and unplug…from team, from a schedule, from outside expectations… It was so needed.

Most of our time away was spent in California. We shopped and hiked in Yosemite (we’ll let you guess who was most relaxed by those activities) and ate a lot of good food and so much more that just adds up to equal a whole lot of good.

When we got home, Jimmy had a bit more left in his time off, and Lori slowly eased back into full days of work. Now, we’re both in our new jobs and, like we mentioned before, figuring out what our new “normal” looks like. Of course, it doesn’t help that Cameron and Bradley are both immersed in Staff Training and we’re basically empty nesters. Maybe it’s good practice for when they are actually gone with the road teams in September. Wow, what a thought.

As far as our new jobs go, Jimmy is pretty much thriving. He’s spending his days getting to encourage and challenge people in the way he does best. Lori is still in the process of figuring out her new job, this is by far the biggest job she has taken on. There is so much to learn and figure out for both of us, but we are certain, as always, that God is in control; He has given us all we need, including all of you who hold us up along the way.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  1. Praise! Austin and Alyssa are fully funded and Austin has officially started working full time at camp; He LOVES it. This also means we get to see them more often.
  2. Lori has been sick off and on for the last few months, and we think she has some TMJ issues going on. Please pray her body will heal well and her immune system can stand up to anything new.
  3. Cameron and Bradley will be doing life without us on the road this year and it’s already harder than we anticipated, even with them being at camp with us right now.

  1. Jimmy & Lori,

I’m so glad you were able to get away, really away! Sometimes it’s hard to stop when the familiar things are still around us.

The transition to empty nesters is hard, but also good. It will be a new wonderful time of life.

Looking forward to seeing you in Oct for Ladies Retreat!

    Love you all! Sandy

  3. So thankful to hear that you were able to get away for a bit after all these years and enjoy some relaxing time. Praying as you transition into your new roles. We’d love to have you speak at our missions conference this year. We’re waiting on another missionaries’ response too, but it would either be the week of Sunday, 3/10 or 3/17 if you’re open. God’s grace to you guys!
